Representations are judgments people make on specific social groups - this is also known as stereotyping. In many films and tv drama's there are lodes of stereotyping in different social groups. Examples of this is that the female protagonist is more likely to be the weaker character; a young male(black - African/Caribbean) is more likely to be seen as a gangster or the one whom causes chaos; a muslim may be stereotyped as a terrorist and so on. Social groups can be split up and based on: sex, ethnicity, religion and so on.
In my film opening the main social group is the female sex however it is also contradicting. The reasons for this is because all of the characters in our film opening are females. We have a female who is having a nightmare allowing her to seem week however we have female bullies making them seem strong and dominating. Throughout the rest of the thriller film I would have thought that we would probably use stereotypes as they are very comon and sometimes appealing however we would also challenge representations to stand out from other films in the market.
Since we represented females in a positive and negative way I think it may lack realism as majority film openings have both genders and if there is a female hero alongside there would be a male hero aswell. By representing females positively aswell as negatively I feel like the audience would relate more as females are not only week.

Evaluation; Q4 - Who would be the audience for your media product
I have done some research to find the wider audience for thriller films in general. This research has been done over the world wide web as well as a questionnaire in a educational environment. Below are my findings.
There are many sub genres for thriller films and therefore there is a wide audience; some examples of sub genre's may be: comedy thriller; supernatural thriller; conspiracy thriller; disaster thriller; political thriller; action thrillers; horror thrillers and many more. I will go into detail of these examples of thrillers.
Action thrillers would have a younger audience. The reason for this is because it involves props such as guns, bombs and it also involves a lot of chasing( e.g humans or vehicles). Because of these conventions it would appeal more to a male dominated target audience. On the other hand these type of movies usually have an attractive hero which would attract females. Actions films have a mixed gender audience due to these reasons.
Gangster/crime thrillers also tend to have a younger audience. These audiences can be as young as 18. These type of movies usually attract male audiences because the protagonist is usually a very macho-man,therefore they would feel as though the movie is aimed at them. Additionally the movie is more likely to be set in a urban location and therefore it would be seen to be very appealing as the film is more realistic. Also a reason why the younger audience would be appealing to this type of film genre is because they may have experienced what the characters have been experiencing or it may be happening around them as they also live in these types of areas.
Comedy thrillers have a very large audience. These audiences can range from a young age as 15 to an older age group as 50. The reason for this is because comedy is very popular as everyone enjoys a laugh and comedy thrillers also allow audiences to relax instead of being stressed with work and so on. Additionally comedy thrillers are based in urban and sub-urban areas and therefore many people would feel engaged. Comedy thrillers also tend to allow audiences to socially interact about the movie as they remember their favourite lines or scenes.

Different types of thriller openings
There are three types of thriller openings and these are: Narrative; Discrete and title over blank screen. All these types of thriller openings would have music to set the genre as that is one of the main elements of the opening of the film.
Narrative opening is when the scene is set; the characters are introduced and their situation.The narrative opening sets the scene by showing us where the setting is; if it has a rural setting the film may be shot in the countryside. Also the characters are introduce; this may be through the speaker as they may be speaking towards the opening of the film of the characters may just be introduced as they enter the scene. The situation may be described through the actions of the characters or the props or even through conversation. Many different shot types are used to capture the setting.

Karma Bloopers
Here is the Karma Bloopers which were edited out our film. Bloopers are the scenes that went wrong; in professional films they are usualy humerous of the actor messing up their line or doing the wrong thing. We decided to make bloopers seperate from the title sequence as our title sequence has got to be 2 minutes in total and if we added on the bloopers themn it would be too long and it is also not essential for our coursework.

Editing day four (6/03/2013)
Today was my fourth day editing. Today my main focus was to do the bedroom scene and do some fast images as Andreia thought we should use intertextuality by using flashing images; she had seen this from a previous students opening sequence 'Violet'.
In the morning I focused mainly on the bedroom scene. I cut and put the clips in order to make it look realistic. Additionally my group and I thought we should try and make Karma seem more like a ghost than humanly as she is only Mercy's conscience and therefore doesn't really exist. We used a blur effect and made the clip lighter to allow her to look less humanly.
In the afternoon after my lesson I came back to do some more editing. This time I focused more on the flashing images as our title sequence had to be a bit longer as it was only 1:38 seconds. Firstly I had to choose which clips I wanted in the flashing image sequence; I had to make sure they were 10 seconds each so the length helped out with the fact that our title sequence was too short. A technition had taught me how to cut the clips and make it seem like it was flashing images; it was a long process therefore I chose the c lips and put them in order and Andreia volunteered to work on it with the teacher tomorrow to make the pace faster for it to have a bigger impact on the audience.
Overall today was a long hard day however we managed to get a few things done to help reach us closer to two mins. The only things left to be done is the flashing images and the credits and in the next two days that will be our main focus.

Today we had to decide weather we was going to use a black and white effect or a different filter which was faded; we chose to make it black and white however have a small amount of colour in it. I had decided to focus mainly on the video filters as I thought it would be good to make it look as professional as possible.
I had remembered that in a few films a good effect was how two video's faded on top of one another and I thought we could also use this. I thought about the feedback and what Dan had told us; he said Mercy should be on screen more sleeping and so I thought instead of cutting a lot of clips off I could just insert a fade of her sleeping while her dream is also on show.
This effect was very difficult for myself to do; with the help of a teacher I managed to get an idea of what I wanted; he showed me how the process worked and taught me how I needed to do this. It took a very long time to get what I wanted as in one of the scenes an adidas bag was in the background and we need to find a way to get rid of it; the font of the logo and name was gold therefore it stood out. After trying many ways to get rid of the adidas logo we decided to crop the clip as it would have been very time consuming and a waste of time to focus on one bag.

Editing after rough cut
The photos above show group 7 editing together in lesson on Monday the 4th of March.
Rough cut feedback
When my group and i showed our rough cut opening sequence we had told them that the soundtrack was not put on, the title sequence was not finished and neither was the editing. We then showed the class the sequence and collected some feedback. Below are some of the feedback we got and areas of improvement we should consider.
- Half of the class understood what was happening in the thriller however we established that after the soundtrack was put on it would help them understand when it was finished.
- We also have to cut our opening sequence down to two minutes as it s too long.
Karma - Rough cut
This is our rough cut. It is unfinished as we did not have much time to edit the scene. The title sequence is unfinished as is the soundrack. There is yet a lot more editing to be done to look professional and have an impact on the audience.
Overall - Working in a team
Team work is a very important skill to have in the film inductry. Team work allows all the members in the group to get along with each other and get the job done. Without this skill it causes alot of conflict and effects the quality and quantity the work that is being produced.
Esme is like the technision of the group; she has done majority of the filming as she is not an actor and is excellent when working with a camera. Esme is also a genious when editing the title sequence; she has good editing skills and is very quick when editing things. Although we all edit i feel that Esme is one of the strengths of our group as she has better knowledge on editing than the rest. Overall working with Esme was a great experience; i feel that i learnt alot whilst working with her and also i feel that she has helped me alot as she supported me when i was behind on my blogging.
Andreia is our speed blooger; she blogs a lot and gives us ideas of what to blog to get a better grade. Andreia contributes to the idea of the main outline of the thriller.
Esme is like the technision of the group; she has done majority of the filming as she is not an actor and is excellent when working with a camera. Esme is also a genious when editing the title sequence; she has good editing skills and is very quick when editing things. Although we all edit i feel that Esme is one of the strengths of our group as she has better knowledge on editing than the rest. Filming - The actual costume; makeup and props.
Ivory's costume was originally supposed to be casual clothing however through research it is seen that phsycho's are more likely to dress up in white clothing. Ivory's character then decided to dress up in a cream blouse and cream chino's to make it clear the she is a psycho however to show a normal side as this costume is also the new trend these days.
Ivory's shoe wear was a pair of nikey shoes to show she is a youth as the target audience for these branded nokey shoes are mainly for youths (young adults; teenagers and children). this pair of nikey trainers are black and white; this is because Ivory's character is more scary and therefore she should be wearing much eye catching colours and should be plain.
The makeup the Ivory wore was foundation to make her seem paler as she is a dead character. This foundation also helps make her skin seem clear as no actor wants the camera to catch any spots on their face. Black eye shadow was also used to make Ivory look scary as she is the dead character; we thought it would a good idea to make her look dead buy putting black eye shadow around her eyes.
Ivory also wore a coat. This coat was worn to suggest the time of year it was set in; although the weather is not always important it always effects what costume is worn. The weather wasn't too great when filming and therefore we thought Ivory's character should wear a coat.
