Health and Safety and Equipment

In my health and safety tutorial that was introduced in class has taught me how to work with the camera and tripod.

Camera:

  • I have learnt that when I need the camera I have to carefully get it out of the bag.
  • I understand that I need to check that the lock is off and that it is set up for filming.
  • Attach a battery in case when filming, the camera does not switch off all of a sudden.
  • Insert a memory card so that I can have proof of what I have filmed.
  • Then place the camera on the tripod.
I have acknowledge that before filming I have to ask and tell my teacher the exact location and scenario of where I am about to film. Additionally, I also am ware that I have to leave my contact details therefore my teachers know where and how to keep in contact with me and to ensure that the equipment and I are safe. I also have to have the college number in case of emergency. Furthermore, I am also aware that I have to film an appropriate manner because I know that the equipment costs tonnes of money and therefore the way I film should have minimum risks as possible. I am aware that when filming I have to check that the weather is suitable because if it rains then the camera should be under a shelter. Moreover, I should ask permission to film people and in certain locations and definitely not trespass as it is illegal.

Tripod:

I am aware that setting up the tripod it is not as easy as it looks. It requires a lot of time and care to get it positioned correctly.

When I unpack the tripod, the first thing I should do is unfold it and then straighten the legs. Secondly, I should check for any damage therefore when filming it wont cause endurance because the tripod is vital as it supports the camera so that the footage is not 'shaky'. Thirdly, I extend each of the legs so they are all sticking out on each corner. I tighten them into position so that the column is supported by the legs and that the legs won't fall but are now fixed in place. Now, the body of the the tripod can be fit. In addition, I should make sure that when fitting the tripod legs then I should ensure that the legs do not overbalance the tripod as it will affect the stability of the tripod and the camera.

I have also set a rule to at all times keep an eye on the equipment and its surroundings.
To show that I have fully understood these requirements my group and I have kept our teachers fully aware of the location of our filming and the times we will collect the equipment and the times we will bring them back. Our phone numbers are always given to the teachers. In order to film we definitely ned the battery and memory card because without them I cannot. I have also set a rule to at all times keep an eye on the equipment and its surroundings. The location of the filming is at a safe public park in a low crime rate area, Friary park in Friern Barnet. The tripod is placed correctly.
