A thriller opening - Enemy of the State

A Thriller opening

From watching the opening of Enemy of the state; a political thriller, I found that it included lots of fast flashing images with cross cut editing, to suggest dramatic events and that there is lots going on. This was highlighted with background music which was very dramatic and intense. There is also non-diegetic music which sound like computer generated noises and syrens, so this hooks the audience to set up questions about what the genre of the film is and what might happen in it.

The first image on screen is of the landscape of an urban city to show where the film is set, and this also has editing to out the title of the film on the top of this.
Then there are very fast flashing images of cctv cameras, buildings, targets, police car chases and people running, helicopters and sometimes there has been editing to change the lighting to look like the images are from a cctv cameras perspective.

All these techniques used make the audience want to carry on watching the film because the opening has introduced them to what will be taking place later on and want to find out what will happen.
